Made ready for makers

Hobby hardwood is the market.

Interesting local wood,
in useful quantities.

This is hardwood for people building in garages, basements, small shops, and independent studios. One special board, a few matched pieces, or enough stock for a real project is a complete order.

Tusky will not try to imitate a commodity lumber yard. The advantage is smaller lots, visible character, known condition, practical guidance, and a closer connection between log and project.

01

Boards + project stock

Small-lot hardwood for furniture, boxes, shelves, repairs, and the next idea on your bench. Buy a useful board or a project quantity without needing a commercial order.

Rough or selectively milled
02

Slabs + figured wood

Individual slabs, matched pieces, crotch figure, character boards, and unusual cuts selected for what makes each piece worth building around.

Photographed + sold individually
03

Shorts + maker stock

Turning blanks, carving stock, offcuts, and small project packs that put good local hardwood to work instead of treating smaller material as waste.

Released as material allows

Stock for the scale you work at

Start with the wood you actually need.

Inventory follows the logs, so the mix will change. The constant should be clear dimensions, clear condition, and enough information to decide whether a piece belongs in your project.

Condition before adjectives.

Good stock starts with honest information.

Species, dimensions, source lot when known, milling date, defects, and moisture condition matter more than calling every board premium.

  1. 01

    Source

    Begin with a known log

Farm, windfall, and local logs are recorded by species and source when that information is known.
  2. 02

    Mill

    Cut for useful stock

Each opening face and thickness decision considers grain, figure, defects, yield, and likely projects.
  3. 03

    Dry

    Track condition honestly

Stacks are stickered, dated, and described as green, air-drying, or dry only when measurement supports it.
  4. 04

    Select

    Match wood to the maker

A board is sold with the dimensions, condition, and character a woodworker needs to plan the next step.

No endless catalog. No mystery boards.

Every piece should tell you what it is.

Ask about boards, slabs, shorts, turning stock, or a species you are trying to find. We will describe what is actually available and what work it may still need.

Visits are by appointment so stock can be pulled in advance and customers stay separate from operating equipment. Custom milling is considered separately when capacity and policies allow.

Field note / 001

Hobby hardwood is the market.
Honest wood is the standard.
Every board is tracked, dried, measured, and handled with the care you'd expect from a professional yard—whether you're building your first piece or your fiftieth.

Tusky Design

Furniture from the same wood, with its own direction.

Tusky Design is the furniture side of the shop. It starts with the same local hardwood, then builds it into original forms, sculpted pieces, inlay, and material-specific detail meant to stand on their own.

01

Original forms

A focused portfolio of pieces that are recognizable as Tusky work, not a catalogue of every possible style.

02

Material-led detail

Sculpting, inlay, matched grain, and unusual local figure are used where they serve the design, not as a checklist of premium features.

03

Selective commissions

Client work adapts Tusky forms to a room or use. We take on selective projects rather than becoming a general custom furniture shop.
